A Very Tiny Speck

Dear  Future Kiddo,
Last night, I dreamed about you.  You were a boy.  The doctors took you away and I couldn't see you for a long time.  I got dressed.  I looked for you, and  then I found you in the hallway.  I cried my head off because I was so happy.  I wanted to take you home.  We named you Grayson after your father.  The more I thought about it, the more I really liked that idea.   I wanted to call you "Gray" for short.  Gray.  The color of all the roads you will travel during your lifetime.
And even though I woke up to my normal life- without you- and I kissed your father and I made coffee and I rushed out the door per usual, thoughts of you rolled around in my head all day.

One of my favorite authors says that he envisions God walking toward him down a dirt path.  He says He started out as a tiny speck, but He is getting closer.  He says that someday, he will see the lines on His face.

You and I?  I think we are the same way.

My name is Holly Bierly Young, and something really weird is happening.

Love and other weird stuff,
H.

P.S. Just for the record, even with all this being said, if I wind up pregnant within the next year, I'll be just as surprised as you.

I've Got The Blues

I think now would be a good time to tell you how much I love the color blue.  I can't wait to see the contrast of orange leaves against a hot blue sky with maybe a fluffy cloud or two.
 Meh, this is love.

What's your fave?

Feeling quite BLUE,
H.

America, America

I know we've made our mistakes in the past,
but I still believe
 in my heart
that I live in a
great country.

Our Friend, Rich

When Tim and I went to Nashville, we visited The Frist Center and had a fantastic time.  We happened to catch The Golden Age of Couture Exhibit- lots of vintage dresses, corsets, and the like.  I nearly cried I was so happy.  Tim was a very good sport.  He is a nice husband.

Anyway, while there, I discovered (and fell in love with) a photographer named Richard Avedon.  He's brilliant.  His work made me want a different life.  I mean that in such a good way.  I just don't know how to explain it.  Maybe you can do it better.  I think if I was 10 years younger, I would become a photographer, and when people would ask me what made me want to become a photographer, I would say, "The work of Richard Avedon."
He is just that good.  I know you'll love him, too.

And for you, on this-almost-Friday- My Favorite Print by our friend, Rich.
You must research him.  You must.  This post hardly did him justice.
Love and new favorite artists,
H.
P.S. I'm asking for his books for Christmas, and I've been really good this year.  Just so you know.

Burn

The internet has been oh-so-yucky at our house.  Don't know what's wrong...just lots of just....sitting....there.  Maybe it is still on summer vacation.

Who knows, but it leaves me Missing in Action quite often these days.

Meh.

In other news, Tim and I bought a fire pit last night and I CAN'T wait to use it! Daydreaming about hooded sweatshirts, hot chocolate and doing "nothing" together outside.
My best to you.
Love, H.

For you, a list (part 2)

In honor of Monday/Labor Day, I give you an updated version of my to-do list.  I wanted to have everything finished by this weekend.  Don't laugh.  I'm pretty proud of what I accomplished thus far, and I LOVE this newly adopted "to do list" system!!!  Maybe later I'll revise some things and publish The Biggest Fattest Mostest Things I've Accomplished List Ever (I'm still working on the title).

At this rate, by next Wednesday, I'll have a cure for cancer.

Grade Math Assessment 10.8
laminate a few things I've been putting off
Hang 20 "word wall" words        (58 hung, thank you!)
iron/hem curtain that goes in classroom door/window

Double-check due date of student loan
Go to the bank
Send necessary emails
look up some new recipes/start grocery list for upcoming week

dust living room/dining room
unload dishwasher

More later, I promise.

For you, a list

My friend Carmen came up with a great idea for her blog- she posts her weekly to-do list and shares some things she's already checked off.  She also encourages her readers to post theirs and link back to hers so we can all be inspired by what everyone is accomplishing.  Hooray for a Team Effort.

Except...

Poor Carmen, I have been telling myself I was going to link up to her "to-do" posts for a long time.  But, we're here now.  Hooray, again!

Honestly?  It has changed MY LIFE! Ha...Seriously.  I have been using a little notebook and adding things to my list...along with marking things off ever since school started last week.  I think this is a large part of the reason why my house is actually *kind of* clean/picked up.  I love the "doing little things at a time" attitude this list-making evokes...not quite so overwhelming, I must say.

Well, here are the things I'd like to finish by Friday or Saturday.  Some of them are school/work-related so I realize they don't have much meaning to you...but to me...yowza.  I actually feel pretty good about what I got accomplished tonight.  Here is my most updated list (no longer including things that I marked off tonight).

I was a bit vague on some things.  I felt silly detailing exactly whom I "need" to email, etc. Although I'm sure those people would be flattered, I don't think everyone needs to know EVERYTHING.

I feel super lame saying this, but it was fun.  Thanks for the idea, Carmen!  I'm sure I'll be linking up again sometime soon.

If you are a reformed clutterbug/control freak/person-of-organized-chaos like me, then I highly suggest you try this "to-do list" method.  It really does make life (and organized living) much easier.

Love and lots of check-marks,
H.
